We had QUIZ #3 today…on the ABC’s. Students have been practicing all week in class and with homework how to spell using Spanish letters and phonetic sounds.
Ask you child to spell their name using Spanish letter sounds!
Hola,
I want to give a heads up about grades as this week is the half-way mark of the first grading term. I sent home a grade report today that needs to be signed and sent back tomorrow. If you could include your email, that would help tremendously. Also, a link was sent out with the computerized grading system yesterday for those who were already in the system. I will put your email in as soon as I receive them.
Keep in mind that homework is not accepted late at ALA. If there is classwork, like warm-ups or quizzes that are missing, a student can make those up after school. Please make arrangements to do that with the teacher.
Students checked their grade reports with their Tarea Sheet and their graded warm-ups. If there are missing grades, then the student was not there or did not have their binders with them in class. If these missing assignments aren’t shown to the teacher by the end of this week, they will turn into a ZERO. Please ask your student to show you their warm-up grade and their homework sheet (yellow Tarea Sheet) to double check as well.
Gracias,
Sra. Weller
Just a quick note about last night’s homework… I understand that word searches are tedious and difficult for some children. Although I had several 3rd graders do the entire puzzle for extra credit, I also had several 4th and 5th graders not to do any of the puzzle. As a rule of thumb, if your student is spending more than 30 or 40 mins. on my homework, have them stop and turn in what they can. I do not want to overload students.
Thanks, and I apologize if your child spent too much time on this assignment.
Hola,
This week we are beginning our next unit, ABC’s, Pronunciation, Cognates and Language History.
Please click the above HomeWork links to find out this week’s homework.
Gracias,
Sra. Weller
We will have our second quiz over unit 2 tomorrow, Thursday Aug. 19.
The lists of vocabulary are written in the spiral notebooks by the students in class. The SPIRAL notebook is basically the text for Spanish class and the students are creating this “vocab textbook” by copying down vocabulary in class.
Each UNIT is comprised of about 14 words. It is the student’s responsibility to copy the vocab. lists. Sometimes students don’t finish writing down the words in class, so I give handouts in class for these cases and the student needs to copy the vocab into their spiral at home.
Also, I keep the word lists for each week posted here below in the weekly updates. Scroll down to make sure your students have them written correctly.
Homework is posted in the tabs above according to week/date. Please check daily to ensure completion. Students are responsible for bringing home the assignments from class on the day they are assigned.
Gracias and contact me anytime

Hola,
This week we are beginning Unit 2, Greetings and Farewells, for 3,4, and 5th graders. Each week we will have at least 2 homework assignments and a quiz. It is my goal to complete a unit each week or so. As with all vocabulary in Spanish Class at ALA, students should be able to show you a gesture of each phrase below and say the word in Spanish correctly, identifying the meaning with the gesture and the English as well. The list of words for this week/unit 2 are below:
¿Cómo estás?/ ¿Cómo está usted? How are you/How are you politely
Muy bien Very well/good
Gracias Thank you
¿Y tú? ¿Y usted? And you?/And you (polite)
Mal Bad/Not good
Más o menos/Así así So-so/okay
Hasta luego/Hasta la vista See ya later
Canta sing
Vuela fly
Salta jump
Para stop
Duerme sleep
Rápido fast
Despacio Slow
We will have a quiz over these words AND the ones from unit 1 on Thursday of next week.
Gracias,
Sra. Weller
We have completed three days of school already!! WOW! PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR VOCAB LIST OF 14 WORDS!!
I am so impressed with all of my students this year! It has been a great first couple of days and I hope you are hearing Spanish coming home already.
Normally, I will not be giving homework on Fridays, but this week we do have homework since it was a short week. The homework is listed on the tabs above according to grade levels and by week. I will post the vocabulary list on this home page so students can make sure they have the words written down in their spiral notebook. Monday Aug. 6 students are to have their supplies and we will enter the vocabulary then. Tuesday we are having a quiz on this vocabulary. Students are expected to study daily to be prepared for quizzes. Normally quizzes will be on Fridays. But this unit’s quiz is Tuesday Aug. 10. Here is the list of vocabulary for UNIT #1:
¿Cómo te llamas? What’s your name?
Me llamo ______. My name is _____.
Hola Hello/Hi
Adiós Goodbye
El chico The boy
La chica The girl
El/La estudiante The student (m/f)
La maestra / El Maestro The teacher (f/m)
Sí Yes
No No (don’t, isn’t doesn’t, etc.)
Levántate Stand up
Siéntate Sit down
Camina Walk
Corre Run
The students know an action or gesture for each of these words. They should be able to show you the action and tell you the meaning for each word. Please sign the worksheet #1 for Monday if your child has proven they know these vocabulary words.
Have a great weekend!
¡Adiós!

It was so good to see you all again at the Meet the Teacher BBQ! For those who didn’t make it…I look forward to seeing you again Wednesday. I am teaching Spanish to all K-5 students at ALA this year. And the most exciting part for me is that it will be a daily class for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! And the K-2nd graders will have Spanish twice/week instead of just once! YAY!!!
