¡Hola!  Bienvenidos a la clase de Español!  My name is Sra. Clay and I’m excited to be teaching Spanish I at ALA this year!  I am from Chicago, IL and am a University of Alabama grad…ROLL TIDE! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Spanish and English.  I’ve taught beginning level Spanish for more than 15 years and I truly love it!  I’m looking forward to guiding your student through his/her first year of foreign language study.

During the course of the year students will develop the ability to communicate about themselves and their immediate environment using simple sentences containing basic language structures.  This communication is evidenced in all four language skills-listening, speaking, reading, and writingwith emphasis on the ability to communicate orally and in writing.  We will be using the Realidades I textbook.  Our goal is to get through five units, Para Empezar-Unit 5A.  Each unit is based on a central theme…Mis amigos y yo (My friends and I), La escuela (School), La comida (Food), Los pasatiempos (Hobbies), and Fiesta en familia (Family holiday).  There are two chapters per unit and each will have vocabulary, at least two grammar concepts, and relevant culture.

Feel free to use this website to view the course syllabus and other important documents, to read the School-to-home Connection letters for each chapter, to gain access to chapter vocabulary lists and grammar notes, to keep up with your child’s homework assignments and upcoming assessments, and to find links and other helpful resources.  If at any time you have questions, email is the best way to reach me.  Please give me 24-48 hours to respond.  Thanks! and I am looking forward to a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Sra. Clay
