Homework policy

Homework must be completed neatly and on time. Homework is a reflection of the skills we are learning in class. It is checked daily for completion. Homework must be completed by the student in pencil and returned daily. If homework is NOT completed daily, the student will get ½ credit if it is turned in the next day.  If a student is absent, they have one day to return the work missed while they are absent.  The students receive a planner at the beginning of each week and the spelling words will be posted on this website.  The homework is posted on the board and the expectation is that they fill their own planner out each day.  It is an adjustment, but 2nd grade is a jumpstart for independence, learning to focus and apply the knowledge that they have and will gain, not to mention following instructions. **Please keep in mind that when someone else does your child’s homework it is not benefitting them.  I only grade homework based on completion.  I make corrections so that you can go over it with them, but also so that I know what they are struggling with.  If someone else does it for them, I can’t know what they are struggling with, but it definitely shows when they take an assessment at the end of a unit.  Please help them succeed.  If I may make a suggestion: have them do the homework they enjoy right after school.  Give them a break and then have them come back to finish the rest.  This may or may not work for you and is just a suggestion if you think it will work....
